They lived in a strong wooden fortress on islands in the Dnipro.
That place was called Zaporizka Sich.
A Cossack's house was called "курінь".
Cossacks wore bright clothes and a special hairstyle – "оселедець".
On a special Square, future warriors learned to use a saber,
ride a horse and shoot with a bow and cannon.
Cossacks made musical instruments and played the kobza, tympani, and trumpet.
In their free time, Cossacks held competitions where they showed their fighting skills.
One of these competitions was the dance «Гопак».
To move on water, they built a strong and fast boat,
which they called «Чайка».
